Pledges:

  • We aim to have at least 33% of non-staff contributing authors to Arms Control Today (ACT) or other publications be women (cis- or transgender) or identifying as non-binary or non-conforming persons, and to have at least one ACT article per year focus on gendered dimensions of weapons, war or arms control policies, or address gender diversity in the field.
Additionally, as we continue promoting our “New Voices” program in ACT that we started in mid-2021 aimed at promoting younger (under 35) and more diverse authors, we aim for at least 33% of these articles to be written by young women (cis- or transgender) or identifying as non-binary or non-conforming persons.
  • We aim to provide at least one media training (either external trainings from colleague organizations or ACA trainings) and mentoring, coaching and support from senior staff to younger professional women on staff.
  • We aim to promote a gender-balanced roster of experts – with women comprising at least one-third of ACA (staff and sometimes Board members or colleagues) experts named in media releases, or other press availability or promotion
A further desired outcome is to have more of our non-male staff (both women and other gender diverse persons) be quoted by press. (We note that this builds upon our training goals for our ACA staff- commitment #2.) Rather than setting a specific numerical goal at this time, we are exploring the best strategies and tactics to promote opportunities and overcome barriers for these non-male staff members.
